Also on my grandmothers birth certificate it has the occupation of her father, Edward Brew, down as police detective, I have been in touch with Frances Coakley and she has looked up in a reference book she has of all the police on the island until 1950 and there is no recored of him there. She also said that detectives were only called from the mainland for a major case, no detectives resident on the island permanantly employed. If anybody has any information about this or knows where I can get some I would be very grateful as I am stumped. The birth certificate is from 1915 and Edward was born 1880, was married to Mary Alice Corris any info about that side greatfully received too!! Thanks Emma
