Re: Faragher - Keggin
In Response To: Re: Faragher - Keggin ()

I had just started to write the bulletin last night, when I had to hand over the computer! I had heard of you, and seen the details of the branch who went to New Zealand, but could not remember the details. Brian Lawson has provided census details for you, which I am certain are correct. I had little reason to look at the Keggins, are any further than that for which I have details, but I will share the Faragher details on line, just in case someone else picks up on them for you.

Firstly, I am afraid you have married mother to son. Jane was married to John James Fargher. Jane died 12 February, 1944, age 93, and is buried at Ballaugh Church. At Peggy's request, I check on the grave to see if it is tidy, as Peggy can no longer do so. As I said, Jane is my great great grandmother.

Jane married James Fargher, on 23 Oct 1872, at Braddan. This was from the old microfiche IGI, and I believe it to be correct in this case. James was John James Fargher, and if I have the right person, my great uncle John Faragher told me, way back in about 1970ish on a visit to the IOM from Barrow, that he was known as Jimmy the Shoe. I have to assume that he also did shoemaking, as well as fishing. John James Fargher died on 7 Jan 1931 age 80. There are, I believe, according to Peggy, several shoemakers in the Faragher family. Unfortunately, I cannot remember them all.

Referring to the 1881 census, I believe James Fargher wwas a fisherman, age 28, on the v. 'Sprey'.

Jimmy and Jane Fargher's children were, (and this is from their grand- daughter, not checked in all cases with records):

not in order, James Samuel, Thomas Edward, William John (Billy), Ambrose (Amby Joseph), Lydia, Hilda May, Maggie and Emma Catherine.

James Samuel (the ONLY James Samuel on the IGI Microfiche - what a gift - and he is my great grandfather who was born 9 Jan 1873 at Malew and died 3 Nov 1914 and was buried 7 Nov 1914 in Barrow. I have a copy of the certificate.

He married my great grandmother, Isabella Morrison. A descendant of the Ballaugh Morrisons, and her father was born Malew, so there might have been family friendships there.

If you are sure that John James Faragher is your grandfather, please tell me more. But I am pretty certain that you mean John James Fargher. Would you send me, privately, your line as you know it. I had to check out the names that James Samuel Faragher's son, John Faragher (my great uncle John), gave me all those years ago. I have some photographs, not many, as the Victorian photographs were destroyed many years ago, as being out of date, I suppose. This quite often happened, I am told.

I have not been able to find these Faraghers in the Faraghers of the Ayre, which is an excellent book for those studying Fargher/Faragher.

Well, that is enough for the public view. I shall write privately. Susanne.

That is enough for the net, I will now write privately. Susanne.

Where did you get the 'Isabella' in Jane Isabella Keggin from?

Alice Elizabeth Fargher was born on 26th April, 1874.
