A few years back communications with the Isle of Man Historian and the Isle of Man Librarian firmly stated that NO MCHOOD'S ever lived on the Isle of Man.
I have located information that the IGI has listed over 30 McHood Family members either being confirmed or baptised on the Isle.
Additionally I located a document from 1735. The Title is "1735. The Seats of Douglas Chapel (St. Mathews)" and contains the following piece of information. One John McHood bought a seat in the North Gallery of the church for 100 Pounds.
I am related to a Samuel McHood who appeared in 1760 in South Carolina, America. Can this John McHood be related to my family? Where do the McHoods come from originally. Any help would be appreciated. McHood is a very uncommon name and is perhaps a derivative from another better known name or Clan?
Thanks for your assistance: John of St. Louis, Missouri, America
